How do you get to know me

Hi,

My name is Robert Fernandez, and this is how you get to know me........................By reading this blog!!!

Awesome, now let me tell you a little about myself.
I was born almost 35 summers ago in Santiago de Chile in South America. I'm the oldest with three younger sisters. This will be my first semester at Boston University, and my master is in International Marketing Management.

When I was eight years old my family moved to Sweden. Yes please, not to be confused with Switzerland, it's very common. I lived in Kalmar, a very small city in the south of Sweden. No, I was not attacked by polar bears; we don't have polar bears like a lot of people think we do.

I speak and write Swedish, Spanish and English. I love to travel, my first visit by myself, was to Chile (no way, really?). The plan was to stay there for six months, but I liked the country so much that I stayed for three years. I started to learn their culture, their food (I love food) and the language because I was not dominating Spanish since it's not my primary language.

In August 2004 I decided to study in California because it had everything I wanted, nice weather, coast and the big popular city Los Angeles.
Santa Monica Pier

I started my big adventure in Los Angeles without knowing anybody. It was me, myself and I. I wasn't worried or scared, I was like a little kid in a candy store, and I was thrilled. Well, maybe at first I was scared because I started to watch COPS and Los Angeles came up constantly! When I was living in Santa Monica I met my wife. Things were going great and in 2005 we got married in Las Vegas were her family lives. I wanted to have Elvis as witness or best man, but that was a no no.

In August 2007 my son Alexander was born and I was so proud, but I couldn't believe that I was a father. I graduated with my Bachelor degree in Business Administration in May 2008, concentrated in Marketing. The same year the economy started to collapse, and it was not a good year for any of us here in the United States. Fortunately the new tower Encore from Wynn resorts in Las Vegas was about to open and I got a job. My goal was to be there for two years and then find a job related to my major. It has been three years and I never found a job in my field, and it’s kind of hard when they ask for two to three years of experience. My solution to stay updated and current with my major was to volunteer. In June 2009 my daughter was born, her name is Josephine and she is the most beautiful girl in the world. She was born 3 minutes before my birthday.

Right now I’m volunteering for Nevada State College, where I graduated from, as a column writer for El Tiempo. My mission is to motivate, orient, and help people from the Spanish community in Nevada to reach a higher education. This is something I like a lot, and it is very satisfying to know that people read my column and write to me for help or just to say thank you for what I'm doing.

I hope I get to know you all, and maybe create some friendships. That would be fun. I wish you all good luck!!
